Galway Bay FM presents RehabCare Resource Centre in Galway with a cheque for €6,800

Galway Bay FM presented RehabCare Resource Centre in Galway with a cheque for €6,800, proceeds from the Rehab Radio Bingo run on the station. The money raised by listeners will go towards a range of activities and resources to enhance the services that RehabCare provides to people with disabilities at its resource centre in Liosban Business Park. The proceeds were donated after the final Rehab Radio Bingo Jackpot was not won, with an equal amount also being donated to other local charities in Galway, to be chosen by Galway Bay FM following suggestions from listeners. Accepting the donation from Keith Finnegan, Station Manager, Galway Bay FM (pictured left), Helena Connors, Community Services Manager, RehabCare in Galway (pictured right), said, “We are delighted with this donation from Galway Bay FM Rehab Radio Bingo players. The money will be spent on a variety of activities and resources will assist the people with disabilities in our service. These include sessions in music therapy, occupational therapy and community based pottery classes to digital equipment for assisted learning, equipment for our relaxation room and health and fitness activities. All of these will be of great benefit and will meet each of their individual needs.” RehabCare in Galway provides services to over forty people with disabilities such as intellectual disabilities, physical and sensory disabilities, metal health difficulties, acquired brain injuries and autistic spectrum disorder, ranging in age from 23 to 76. People receive support in areas such as living independently, personal development and increasing social and recreational opportunities, preparing for and seeking employment and accessing further training. Staff support people to access community based activities and mainstream services where possible.

New Kettlebell Challenge for RehabCare

Monday, 20th August 2012: Imagine lifting 10 adult elephants! That’s the cumulative weight (50 metric tonnes) that fitness coach Dave Hedges will be lifting as part of his latest kettlebell fundraising challenge for RehabCare’s HOPS resource centre in Dublin’s Pearse Street. 1K Sea Swim to Raise Funds for Bray RehabCare Defibrillator

RehabCare in Bray is calling on swimmers of all ages to take part in a 1K Sea Swim at Greystones Beach on Sunday 25th March at 1pm. The 1K Sea Swim is the feature event of a nationwide Rehab Swimathon fundraising appeal taking place in 60 centres across the country from 19th-25th March. Funds raised from the event will go towards purchasing a defibrillator for RehabCare’s three day services in Bray. This is a great opportunity for swimmers who have been training indoors during the Winter season to start back in the open water.
